SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2006
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY COULD NOT HAVE
BEEN A BETTER WEEKEND FOR SOCCER IN JACKSON. After a fog bank lifted Saturday
morning, it was beautiful sunshine the rest of the weekend. By the end of the
day Saturday, the tournament had only gotten 25 minutes behind and on Sunday,
the last match finished 5 minutes past the projected end of the tournament. It
was fitting that the last two matches produced some of the best soccer of the
weekend. One match saw the best goal of the tournament a double header and the
final match went to a second round of shootout kicks to determine a
championship.
I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend in Jackson for the "Shoout In The
West". We sure enjoyed having everyone for the tournament and look forward to
having you come back again next year. Thanks to all coaches, parents, players,
refs, and a lot of volunteers that helped make the "Shootout In The West" a
soccer festival for West Tennessee.
We have had rain, but as everyone knows from the past, we don't let a little
rain stop "THE SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST.".....Matter of fact, we haven't even let
even a lot of rain (7 inches in 2004) stop the tournament.
As of Friday, the fields at North Park and Kate Campbell had held up well to the
3 to 4 inches of rain that we have had. Matterfact, considering the rain, they
look GREAT !!! At 5 A.M. Saturday, we started putting out sand only in the areas
that had not drained.
The weather sure cooperated on Saturday and Sunday and I could not believe that
I even heard a comment that it was TOO hot. That sun sure looked great to me.
ANYTHING BUT RAIN. Last year I said that and it was COLD, this year's weather
was GREAT !!!!
I do hopt that everyone had a positive experience at the "Shootout In The West
2006". After getting home, if you have any suggestions or ideas as to how we can
improve the tournament in the future, please e-mail us. It is our goal to
continue to improve the tournament and to make it the best possible experience.
Please also let me thank our tournament director Kelly who did an absolutley
fantastic job.
Thanks again for being a part of the "SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2006."
Pope J. Mulherin, DPh
President of JAWS
The Shootout In The West 2005 had a record number
of teams entering. Thanks to everyone ~ players, coaches, parents and volunteers
for making the 2005 tournament even better than last year.
SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2004..... We
Wouldn't Let Rain Stop The Tournament !!!

7" of rain since Thursday .... but the Shootout In The West went on !!!
Thanks to unbelievable cooperation with the City of Jackson and a lot of
volunteers with squeegees ..... the Shootout In The West went on. With the
exception of 1 local game that had to be rescheduled, all matches were played.
Thanks to parents, coaches, managers, and players for their understanding and
consideration in allowing everyone to try to pull together to make the
tournament happen inspite of rain on Thursday, Friday, Friday night, Saturday
night, and Sunday afternoon.
